The upcoming The Dawn of the Witch anime is set to premiere in Japan on April 7. A trailer and a new visual have been released in addition to the premiere date announcement.
The trailer provides a preview of the show’s main characters, including Saybil (Shuuichirou Umeda), Loux Krystas (Miho Okasaki), Holt (Sayumi Suzushiro), and Kudo (Taku Yashiro). Meanwhile, the visual includes the Mud-Black Witch (Yumiri Hanamori), Mercenary (Masaaki Yano), and Priest (Masaaki Mizunaka).
The Dawn of the Witch is based on the light novel series written by Kakeru Kobashiri and illustrated by Takashi Iwasaki. The series began in 2018 and has four volumes as of November 2021. It is published under the Kodansha Light Novel Bunko label. A manga adaptation began in 2020.
Kodansha describes the manga as:
Saybil is a magic student with no memories of his life before he met a mysterious silver-haired woman in an alley. Now he travels with his teacher, Loux—another student, Holt, and the beastfallen Kudo for “special training”… but this field trip may not be as routine as it seems!
The anime’s staff includes Satoshi Kuwabara (The Quintessential Quintuplets, Girlfriend, Girlfriend) as director and series composer, Reina Iwasaki (Girlfriend, Girlfriend) as character designer, Yumi Aburaya (Adachi and Shimamura) as color designer, and Minoru Nishida (Yasuke) as art designer. Kobashiri and Mayumi Morita (Black Jack 21) are in charge of the literature, while Tezuka Productions is the animation production company.
The Dawn of the Witch is the sequel to Kobashiri’s earlier Grimoire of Zero, of which the Mud-Black Witch, or Zero, and the Mercenary are the protagonists. Grimoire of Zero received an anime adaptation in 2017, in which Tsuyoshi Koyama voiced Mercenary.
