Stars of upcoming movie Amsterdam assembled on the red carpet in London's Leicester Square for the UK premiere last night (Wednesday 21st September), and virginradio.co.uk was there to speak to them.
David O. Russell’s latest movie is full of big names, including Margot Robbie, Rami Malek, Andrea Riseborough and Christian Bale, all of whom were in London yesterday for the event ahead of the film’s release on 7th October.
Amsterdam also features Taylor Swift, and Christian Bale spoke to virginradio.co.uk and other press on the red carpet last night about singing alongside her in the movie. “One thing I really, really enjoyed was the singing. I'm not a very good singer, but I love to sing, and I got to sing up on stage in front of people,” he said.
Continuing to speak about his singing performance, Christian told us: “I was very nervous about it, ahead of time. And then they could hardly pull me off at the end. Because I was like, ‘No, I want to stay. I want to keep going’. It's very short in the film. So, that gives you an idea about how terrible I sounded. But I felt wonderful!”
Speaking about performing alongside music royalty, Christian said: “There was another scene and I ended up singing next to Taylor Swift. So that was awful for her, but wonderful for me!”
Amsterdam’s star-studded cast also features

Robert De Niro, John David Washington, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldaña, Mike Myers and Michael Shannon. The narrative sees three friends – a doctor, a nurse, and a lawyer – become the prime suspects in a murder in the 1930s.

When asked what he hopes audiences take away from Amsterdam, Christian said: “I hope they will take away great optimism, a sense of spirit and fight. You know, you’ve got to stay joyful in the midst of tough times.”
He added: “I hope that we've managed to show this kind of screwball caper comedy versus this very serious backdrop of an actual event that people generally, myself included, didn't know about in American history.”
Amsterdam lands in cinemas on 7th October 2022.
